Welcome to the B- Active in Dorset Guide, this new exciting booklet seeks to build on the Dorset Leisure Month programme which has been a great success over the last 6 years, aiming to encourage everyone to be active and highlight what is available to take your first tentative steps into a more fun and healthier lifestyle.
This guide is co-ordinated by Dorset Physical Activity Alliance a partnership of key delivers from local authorities, health providers, sports facilities and other partners keen to promote positive life messages. Against a climate of inactivity, increased concern of obesity in both young people and adults there is a real challenge to encourage people of all ages and in particular families to strive to change their lifestyle and take up a new fun activity or pastime.
Dave Franks, Co-Chair of Dorset Physical Activity Alliance says; ‘ There is clear evidence that Physical Activity can improve both physical and mental health, but putting that aside the most important thing is about having a laugh with good friends, whatever you do whether it is a sport or just walking in the countryside, the benefits are huge, go on give it a go!’ Andy Dayus, Co-Chair of Dorset Physical Activity Alliance, “Following the recent publication of the Department of Health’s ‘Be Active, Be Healthy’: A plan for getting the nation moving, now seems to be the ideal time for Dorset Physical Activity Alliance to continue to have an integral role in the delivery of national and regional physical activity strategies and to support the local delivery and increasing investment in physical activity to create a more active nation.
The alliance will play a key role in strategically coordinating the local delivery of physical activity initiatives with a view to contributing towards 2 million more people active by 2012″ Please look through this website, there will be information on subsidised activities, Free Swimming, Leisure Learning, What key partners are doing, Disability Sport Opportunities, Events and much more!.
